The department of Political Science is among the first few department that was introduced in 2005 when the college was affiliated to University of Calcutta. Later the college got affiliated to West Bengal State University and Honours curriculum was introduced in 2018.

At present the department offers B.A. Honours and General course as a part of CBCS curriculum. The faculty at present consists of one full time and two part-time teachers. Given the socio- economic milieu the teachers take initiatives to help students who are first generation learners belonging to the economically backward families. In order to impart quality education the department has a fair collection of textual and reference books. The first wall magazine by the Honours students based on topics related to their curriculum was published in 2019.
